Why do I need to add my email address?

If you signed up for Retava with Strava, you may have noticed a banner asking you to add your email address. This is not an oversight on our part — Strava does not share it with us.

When you connect a Strava account to any third-party app — not just Retava — Strava never includes your email address in the data it hands over. It is simply not part of what its API exposes.

What this means for your Retava account

Because we never receive a real email address from Strava, an account created by signing up with Strava starts without one. Until you add one yourself, we have no way to reach you — which means:

  • You will not be notified when you unlock an exclusive discount code from one of our merchants.
  • You will not receive important account updates, such as password resets or security notices.
  • If you ever lose access to Strava, there is no other way for us to verify it is really you.

This is completed on Retava, not on Strava

There is nothing to change in your Strava settings — adding your email is a one-time step on the Retava side. Go to Update Email, enter your address, and confirm it with the 6-digit code we send you. It takes less than a minute.
